“Mommy and Me” fun experience with Emaar

Ice skating is something I never thought of trying. It’s not that I don’t like it – whenever I pass by the Ice Rink at Dubai Mall, I always stop to watch others skate and get really impressed with the professional skaters. It’s just that the idea didn’t come to my mind to try it myself, until Mayssam from Mommy & Yoyo on Instagram, approached me with other 10 mommy/lifestyle bloggers for a play date organized by Emaar Entertainment to host us at the Ice Rink, Kidzania and Sega Republic!

I was so excited about it and so was my daughter and then the day has come and here’s how it went through.

On Saturday morning, January the 14th, we all met at the ice rink at Dubai Mall and started getting ready for our 1st ice skating experience (at least it was “our” first as we had few professional skaters among us 😉 ). We got our helmets on and then was time for the skates. For Ghazal, as she’s 3 and was her first time, she got a skate with double blade that can be fastened on bottom of her shoes. As for mommy, I got the normal one and definitely freaked out :D. Got our gear on and off course Mr. Penguin and Snowman along and passed our 1st test: We walked normally with those shoes on to the Ice Rink. But then came the 2nd test and trust me, it didn’t seem to be as easy as the first: to step onto the ice rink!

I know it’s not the perfect photo but it’s the only one that shows the double blade skate shoes

At this stage, I preferred to send Ghazal with an instructor and then follow her (with another instructor off course 😀 – what was you thinking – I have super skating powers 😀 ). The instructors were so friendly and helpful. They taught us basics and viola – I can stand alone in few minutes 🙂 and so does Ghazal. They stayed around but let us try on our own. I managed to reach to little miss, dumped Mr. snowman and hang around together with Mr. Penguin.

I have to say, this was one of the best experiences, I encouraged my self to try with my daughter and we’ll definitely be back!

The above “Mommy & Tots” sessions are available every Monday from 10:00 to 12:00 and priced at 90 AED. Qualified coaches lead the fun with a 30-minute lesson and afterwards you get the chance to practice and put your new skills to the test. Helmets and special penguin-shaped skating aids are provided for beginners.” You may also check their website below for more offers, deals and even birthday packages!

After all the fun and energy consumption at the Ice Rink, we needed a break (we means mommies not tots 😀 ), so we headed to the Dubai Mall food court where we had the chance to get seated for a chat while the kids get busy at the Sega Republic! It’s not a big area but will do the needful until you have a nice meal or hot cup of coffee!

Then, we proceeded to Kidzania! It was our first time there as well as we still don’t fit in the perfect age range (4-16) but yet was a nice experience.

As a first impression, the place is definitely a WOW! It’s spacious and “offers over 80 role-playing activities in more than 60 establishments with a range of ease and intricacy to meet the abilities and interests of every child.”

We first checked out the Fly Dubai airplane where kids can be either passengers or pilots. Ghazal and Ramzi enjoyed being pilots and pressing every single button on the board (how not and it’s their favorite thing to do even at home). Then we checked out the arts and crafts room where Ghazal was given a girl shape face to color along with the other tots in our group. then went down to the street art corner (i’m not sure it’s called as such but I just named it 😀 ), where kids had their dream come true and were allowed to color the walls! Our last stop was the Fire Fighter station, and I guess this is the most popular attraction for kids at Kidzania. We ended our tour with a ride in the Fire truck, happy faces and knocked tots ready to hit their nap time!

Kidzania is a place that “provides children and their parents a safe, unique and very realistic educational environment that allows kids to do what comes naturally to them; role-playing by mimicking activities done by adults in real life.” They’re priced as follows: toddler (2-3 years) accompanied with an adult (17 years and above): 95 AED, Child (4-16 years): 140 AED. They also have birthday packages, annual passes and gift cards. To know more, you may check their website below.

As a bottom line, thank you Emaar Entertainment for having us on a fun filled day; we really enjoyed it!
